Accessibility Statement

Commitment and scope

Axiom is a VCE mathematics practice service operated by BLOOMFORGE PTY LTD. We want students to be able to learn, practise, review feedback, and manage their account with as few accessibility barriers as possible.

This statement covers the Axiom web app, including its public pages, account and preference screens, practice tools, feedback, history, ratings, and dashboard.

Conformance target

We are working toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA. WCAG 2.2 builds on WCAG 2.1 but removes Success Criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing). This is a target, not a claim that every part of Axiom currently conforms. Axiom has not been independently certified as WCAG compliant.

Accessibility measures

Accessibility support currently includes:

• a skip link and semantic main, navigation, and footer landmarks;
• keyboard navigation, visible focus indicators, and keyboard-managed dialogs;
• Atkinson Hyperlegible as the body font, a typeface designed to improve character recognition for readers with low vision, with Space Grotesk used for headings;
• system, light, and dark themes and a saved text-size preference from 80% to 120%;
• reduced-motion and increased-contrast preference handling;
• an automated jsx-a11y lint check in the frontend quality gate.

Known limitations

• Freehand writing and graph sketching require a pointer, finger, or stylus. Their toolbars can be reached by keyboard, but the drawing action itself is not keyboard accessible. Typed answer input is available where the question supports it, and graph questions also provide keyboard-operable coordinate and asymptote fields. A sketch-only task may still require freehand input.
• Cropping an uploaded answer or avatar image uses direct pointer manipulation. Users who cannot operate the crop control may need to upload an already-cropped image or use a typed answer where the question permits it.
• Screen-reader behaviour for mixed prose and editable mathematical notation varies by browser, assistive technology, and MathLive version. A plain-text or LaTeX-style entry may be easier in some combinations.

Maths, charts, and drawing tools

Axiom uses KaTeX to render mathematical notation. KaTeX supplies visual notation and accessibility markup, although pronunciation can differ between screen readers. Editable maths uses MathLive, which provides its own keyboard and screen-reader support inside Axiom's answer editor.

Ratings and dashboard charts use Recharts. The chart values are also supplied as screen-reader-accessible data tables so the information does not depend on the visual chart or its hover tooltip alone.

Freehand answer canvases are built for pen, touch, and mouse input. They are the clearest current accessibility limitation in the practice flow; typed answers are the available alternative when the question format allows one.

Young people

Axiom is designed for VCE students, many of whom are under 18. Instructions and error messages are written to be direct and specific. Students who need help using an accessibility setting or alternative answer method can ask a parent, guardian, teacher, or support person to contact us with them.
